Following are set of guide lines that we follow when measuring.
1. Determine what Style of shutters you are going to have ie café,
tier on tier, full height or a tracking system.
2. Determine the type of frame and where you would like the shutters to sit.
Frame Types
NB X Large frame is not illustrated. It has a depth of 89mm
a. Inside the recess as close to the window as possible. Use any insert L
or Deep plain L if wish to fix into reveal.
b. Inside the recess and fitted at the front of the reveal so that they can open out around
flat onto the wall. Use deep plain L(with insert).
c. Outside the recess with L frame. Use insert L.
d. Outside the recess with 50.8mm Deco frame
e. Sash window. Use any insert L.
3. Determine the size of louver you would like. 47mm, 64mm or 89mm.
4. Determine the depth of the frame that you require. The depth of your frame will be
affected by your louver choice and whether there are any handles, bt boxes, dado rails etc
in the way. The table below will help you work out what depth of frame you will require.
Ie If your handles sticks out 30mm and you have chosen the 64mm frame you would require
the X Large frame.
5. Measure the width at the point where you intend to fix the shutters in 3 positions Top, Middle and Bottom. Take the smallest amount.
a. Sash windows – take your measurements from the inside edge of the architrave.
b. Deco frame – add 120mm to your reveal width
c. Insert L Frame – if fitting outside recess add 90mm to your reveal width
6. Measure the height at the point where you intend to fix the shutters in 3 positions. Left,
middle and right. Take the smallest amount.
a. Deco frame - add 60mm to height if 3 side frame and 120mm if using 4 side frame.
Only use 4 sided if you do not have a window sill that sticks out from the reveal.
b. Insert L Frame – if fitting outside recess add 45mm if using 3 side frame and
90mm if 4 sided frame. Only use 4 sided if you do not have a window sill that sticks out from the reveal.
c. Café style – measure to where you would like the top of the shutter to finish.
d. Sash windows – take your measurements from the inside edge of the architrave
7. Measure for the Mid rail or 1st tier if required.
a. If your shutters are higher than 1800mm a mid rail is required.
A mid rail is a strengthening bar that runs vertically across the shutter to give support.
As the louvers move independently either side of the rail you can use the mid rail to control
light and privacy. Ie closing the bottom louvers and opening the top. The measurement taken
should be from the bottom of the window to where you would like the centre of the mid rail to be.
b. The 1st tier measurement is again taken from the bottom/sill of the window to where you would
like your bottom tier to finish on a tier on tier opening. It is most often lined up with the top
of the bottom sash or a divider rail on your window.
8. Determine the number of panels you would like and there configuration.
Panel configuration determines the way in which you would like your
panels to fold when they open and also the number of panels you would like on each opening.
Ie to the right or left. With a four panel opening we generally configure it 2 to the left
and 2 to the right. LLRR.
Your warranty will be void if the width of the panel exceeds 550mm.
